Facebook and Twitter are two of the most used social media platforms worldwide. Over time both platforms have had to adapt and change, but both have certainly stood the test of time. But when they are put up against each other, which platform reigns supreme?
Facebook has an outstanding 2.01 billion monthly users, which equates to 38.6% of the worlds current population. On the other hand, Twitter has 328 million monthly users. No comparison here really!
Being compatible for mobile devices is a must for modern platforms. The majority of people have smart phones, so platforms and apps need to be ready for this. 47% of Facebook’s monthly users are on mobile, whereas twitter has a staggering 80% of traffic through their mobile application.
When it comes to daily active users on the platform, Facebook has an impressive 1.32 billion, which is more than 50% of its users. Twitter only musters a mere 33% of its user base, equating to 100,000,000 ‘twitterers’ daily.
Facebook currently has 17,048 employees worldwide. Twitter currently only has 3,583 people working for them, a lot for a platform, but nothing compared to Facebook.
Statuses and Tweets are what the two platforms were created for. They were formed out of a desire to be able to see what all of your friends are doing and to express what you think in the moment. With that being said, Facebook has 293,000 statuses uploaded to the social media site every minute, with Twitter having 350,000 tweets tweeted per minute. After adding all of the tweets sent out in a minute, within the space of a year this equates to 200 billion. That’s a lot of opinions!
There’s no denying that both of the companies are worth a lot of money, seeing as both are two of the five major social media platforms in the world. Which company is valued higher though? Facebook is currently valued at $492.61 billion USD, which is an intangible amount of money. Twitter, on the other hand, is worth 11.91 billion dollars. Just a fraction of Facebook’s worth. Although both companies are considered to be in the same league, when it comes to monthly users, activity and overall value, Facebook reigns supreme.
